Our customers pay for their plants
at the time they are ordered in order to reserve the varieties they want.
When you order, we will confirm the availability of your favorite varieties.
In the event your selection is sold out and you do not specify an alternate
choice, we will offer a substitute for your approval. Remember, order early
to ensure availability as the quantities are limited. Once ordered, your
plants will be removed from available stock and labeled with your name.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If for any reason we have a crop failure and cannot deliver
some of your plants during the current season, we will offer substitute
plants, when possible, or a full refund for the undelivered plants. If you
would prefer a refund instead of substitute varieties, please allow 30 days
from the date you notify us that a refund is your preference.
Occasionally, we will need to substitute a similar plant variety if your
first choice is not available. If you don't specify alternate choices, we
will substitute a similar variety that will do well in our area. If you do
not wish us to substitute, please make this clear when you place your order.
List your preferences in the comments area at checkout.
There are literally many hundreds of
varieties of heirloom tomatoes available and we carry only a very small
fraction. If your favorite variety is not listed, send us a note and we will
try to locate seeds. Once we locate your seeds, we will notify you that we
were successful and request prepayment. Custom-ordered plants are only
available by prepayment. The price of custom-ordered plants is $5.00 each,
with a 4 plant minimum. Custom-orders must be placed before March 1.
Custom-ordered plant costs are non-refundable for any reason other than crop
failure.
Due
to the fragile nature of young tomato plants...we are not currently offering
plants for shipment. We do not have a 'shopping' type nursery so drop-in
shopping is not available. You will have to pick up the plants at the farm
or visit one of our setup sites. We will notify you by phone or email, when
the plants are ready, to set up an appointment for pickup. If we have a
‘market setup’ scheduled we will also offer that option for pickup. Market
dates and setup locations have yet to be determined.
Because of the many variables in individual soil conditions, climates,
biological conditions, and plant care; if your seedlings are healthy when
you receive them, we cannot be held responsible for their condition after
they are in your care and we will not give free replacements. We will,
however, try to ascertain the reason for failure to help you succeed in the
future.
A
quick word about soil, COMPOST. Nothing is better for an organic soil than
regular applications of compost. It can be manure based or yard waste based,
either will be extremely beneficial to developing a fertile and productive
soil. Testing soil is a method some gardeners use, but with regular
applications of organic matter and cover cropping, other than ph testing, we
have not found it necessary. In the event you have had trouble with your
soil in the past, a thorough soil test may be necessary.
Plant your plants when all danger of frost has passed and the soil has
warmed to about 55 degrees. You can help the soil to warm by using black
plastic, but we have found the later plantings usually catch up to the early
ones. Our planting time here at the farm is around the first two weeks of
May. We will make every effort to harden your plants to prepare them for
full sun exposure, but advise you to regulate exposure for the first few
days gradually increasing to full exposure. In the event a few leaves get
burned don’t worry, the plant will recover. When we plant, first we make a
good size trough and mix a granular organic fertilizer in the bottom of the
hole. We then remove the bottom one or two sets of leaves and lay the plants
horizontally leaving just the top sets of leaves exposed. Don’t worry if the
exposed stem is at an angle, it will straighten up on it’s own. Mound soil
over the stem and root ball while keeping the raised edges of the trough in
tact so that it will hold water like a bowl. We then fill the trough with
diluted fish emulsion water and mulch to regulate soil temperatures,
minimize evaporation, and suppress weeds. Stake or cage the plant as soon as
possible to minimize root damage. Tie the stems as necessary.
This method will get your plants off to a healthy start and prepare it for a
productive season.
In
the event that you don't want to grow these plants yourself, but love
tomatoes, don't be discouraged. We will harvest tomatoes from all of the
varieties listed and will set up at local Farmers Markets during the
growing season. If you are interested in purchasing fresh fruit, please
call, email, or check this page for dates and locations of our setup.
Minimum order is 2 plants,
$4.00 per plant (plus tax), mix and match any varieties. For your
convenience, we accept PayPal and most Major Credit Cards through PayPal.
